Throughout the pandemic, many of us turned toward at-home self-care solutions. However, it still feels good to be able to take care of ourselves sometimes and grant ourselves the power of looking and feeling good.

I’ll also share my daily and weekly self-care routine and a beauty self-care list to inspire you on your at-home beauty journey. Finally, you’ll leave this article with all the tools you need to center yourself and have glowing skin.
This post is about the game-changing self-care facial practices you should know about.

Best Self-Care Facial Tips:

Daily and Weekly face self-care routine

One of the best ways to solidify your self-care facial routine is to build on top of your daily habits. So I’m going to share my daily and weekly routine so that you can have some inspiration on where to start.

Daily Self-Care Routine:

AM

  • Depuff my face with a cold roller
  • Gentle cleanse
  • Hydrating toner
  • Vitamin C Serum
  • AHA treatment
  • Moisturizer
  • SPF

PM

  • Oil Cleanse
  • Hyperpigmentation-targeted cleanser
  • Hyperpigmentation treatment
  • Brightening eye-cream
  • Brightening moisturizer
  • Occlusive (CeraVe Healing Ointment): this helps to lock in the moisture on my face and maintain a healthy skin barrier, and I do this 2-3x a week.
  • Gua Sha as the last step

Weekly Self-Care Facial Routine

my weekly routine is generally an add-on to what I’ve done in the previous days. It is primarily focused on relaxation and feeling good. So there are far fewer steps. Actually, there is exactly one extra step. I give myself a facial!

How to give yourself a Facial

Here’s how I do it:

While it may not be as elaborate as visiting your favorite aesthetician, adding a DIY facial to your weekly self-care routine will yield benefits to your skin and happiness.

  1. I start by cleansing my skin to remove any oil and dirt. I start with a cleansing balm and then follow up with the traditional cleanser of my choice. The cleansing step helps to prep my skin for a facemask.
  2. I’ll hydrate my skin with a serum or a face mist to keep my skin supple and ready for masking.
  3. If I’m using a store-bought mask, I’ll check the instructions for the time limit. Taking a pre-read is extremely important, especially if the mask you’re using has active ingredients (typically, these are your exfoliating masks with AHA ingredients). I’ll apply the mask and set a timer slightly shorter than the recommended time.
  4. I rinse off the mask with warm water and allow my skin to air dry rather than using a towel. You can also use these antibacterial clean towels, which prevent further breakouts.
  5. I then finish with serum and moisturizer to lock in the benefits I just gave my skin through the mask.

natural self-care facial routine: gua-sha

Gua Sha is a tool used in traditional Chinese medicine. A smooth-edged tool is used to stroke the skin with light pressure, which raises petechiae, which are tiny spots of internal bleeding (don’t worry, this sounds scarier than it is). Traditionally, Chinese medicine practitioners used it to treat chronic pain and other ailments. Still, recently it has risen in popularity due to exposure from influencers who can’t stop talking about the beauty benefits.

“The point of facial gua sha is to stimulate the dermis layer of the skin to improve elasticity and release the tension to relax your facial muscles,”

Yeo Wei Ling Tricia (Vice)

To use Gua Sha, you typically run the flat piece of the tool, which is usually made out of Jade or rose quartz, along your face and upward emotions, which will help to relax stiff muscles and drain lymph from the face allowing you to detox. You should also apply oil or face lotion to the skin before using the Gua Sha tool. This will help you avoid leaving marks on your skin.

natural self-care facial routine: DIY Face mask

While I prefer to buy my face masks from reputable skincare brands (I feel safe knowing that it is profesionally formulated), It’s important to let you know that you can take care of your skin using ingredients that you likely have in your kitchen! If you want to switch up your routine and try something outside your norm, here are some ideas for a DIY self-care facial using natural ingredients! Use your discretion when taking the DIY route, and be mindful that your skin may react differently to certain ingredients.

These are my tips for creating a self-care facial routine at home. I hope these tools and products help you on your journey to glowing skin!
