The 7 Splurge-Worthy Beauty Buys at the Top of our Wishlist

Following just about any influencer on any social media platform can be enough to get invested in purchasing splurge-worthy beauty buys. Aside from pretty packaging, luxury beauty gives us the promise of better product formulation and better results. Studies show that this logic may not be 100% foolproof, and drugstore products can be of the same or similar quality. However, there definitely is a truth that some products with a heftier price tag are just a cut above the rest. They provide results that products with more accessible price points simply do not. With that in mind, here are 7 splurge-worthy beauty buys that we have our eye on here at The Chroma Network.

Sacheu Stainless Steel Gua Sha

The Sacheu Beauty Stainless Steel Gua Sha via Sacheu

Gua Sha is a practice that has been used in Chinese medicine for about 700 years (Gua Sha dates all the way back to the Ming Dynasty). Some of the benefits include (source):

  • Increased blood circulation
  • Improved fine lines and wrinkles
  • Promotes lymphatic drainage
  • Relieves tension from muscles

Most popular Gua Sha tools are made from naturally occurring materials such as Jade or Rose Quartz. Even better yet, the price point for an entry-level gua sha is exceptionally affordable. However, the average gua sha is made of porous materials. Suppose we aren’t careful and diligent with keeping our gua sha clean. In that case, bacteria can build up on the surface, transferring over to your skin (ew).

A stainless steel Gua Sha like the Sacheu version, is non-porous, meaning that bacteria cannot build up efficiently on the surface. It is also self-cooling, meaning you don’t have to put it in a skin fridge (like this gorgeous luxe one from IKER) to get those satisfying depuffing results like you would with rose quartz or jade. It is also durable, so if you drop it, you don’t have to worry about it snap, crackling, and popping like its traditional counterparts.

Nuface

NuFace Facial Toning Kit via NuFace

The Nuface is for the girl who wants to take her gua sha practice up a notch. I recently sat in on a seminar with Nayamka Roberts-Smithotherwise known as LA Beautyologist, who first planted the seeds regarding electro-current facials in my mind. She mentioned that Gua Sha, while effective, would not provide the same level of results as a microcurrent facial which does make sense when you think about it.

So what does microcurrent do?

I mentioned that The Nuface is a handheld device that can give you a microcurrent facial at home. It delivers microcurrents that stimulate the muscles in your face resulting in a brighter skin tone and a lifted appearance.

What’s better is that the entire process only takes 5 minutes, including washing your face before and after use. Now how’s that for convenience?

A Skin fridge

Iker Skin Fridge via Amazon

The skin fridge is definitely extra, but it is a small luxury that can make your skincare routine feel more spa-like. It is also an added bonus if you like the feeling of applying your products cold.

The aesthetic isn’t the only benefit – using a skin fridge can help your products last longer. Skin Fridges also keep your products cold, dramatically improving the application experience. As we mentioned before and need to drive home, have you tried applying a cold face mask? It is a top-tier feeling. This hydrating mask from Peter Thomas Roth is one of my absolute favorites – it leaves my face looking and feeling like a glazed doughnut.

Suppose you’re a person who has rosacea or experiences any redness in the face after more intense treatment. In that case, the coolness upon application of your refrigerated products will be really soothing for you.

Dr. Dennis Gross LED face mask

The LED face mask seems to be the perfect solution to every possible self-care Sunday need we could ever have.

If you’ve received a facial before, it likely included LED light therapy.

What is LED light therapy, and why do I need an LED face mask at home?

LED light therapy is a non-invasive beauty treatment that enters the layers of the skin, exposing them to varying energies. The skin absorbs this energy into the surface at different depths to stimulate the desired reaction. LED light facials are cited as promoting cellular growth and repair and giving users a healthy, youthful glow (source)

The LED face mask simply concentrates this treatment in a way that is accessible and safe for you to use at home. Aside from creating targeted solutions to any skin concerns you may have, it’s also just an easy way to add a feeling of luxury to your couch time.

Visualize yourself picking up that Saturday night Facetime call and saying, “I can’t make it, I’m masking.”

While the Dr. Dennis Gross version is the most popular and reputable, there have been some new mid-market options to hit the shelves, including:

Olaplex shampoo and conditioner

Olaplex Shampoo and Conditioner via Olaplex

Olaplex was a brand that initially confused me at the start of its popularity. Looking at it, I honestly thought it was a scam – I mean, the bottles were tiny, especially for the price. But, it promised to improve the strength and appearance of my hair – I couldn’t help but wonder, “does Olaplex even work for my 4b hair type?”

As I investigated further and hit up my favorite academic institution, YouTube University, I came to see that Olaplex is genuinely for the girls! That means Olaplex products cater to all hair types and textures.

After trying Olaplex 0, 3, and 8 for a few wash days to target heat damage, I can say that I genuinely do see a difference in my hair compared to when I started. My curls that were not as profoundly affected by heat styling have more elasticity and uniformity than when I started.

To add more products to the fold, I’m interested in adding the shampoo and conditioner to the lineup, which promises to:

  • Support bond repair
  • Prevent frizz and flyaways
  • Repair split ends, damage and breakage

You Go Natural Sleep Turban

Pleated Sleep Turban via You Go Natural

We curly girls have been sleeping with hair protection since the dawn of time. We know the importance of silk or satin to healthy hair, from the standard headscarf to the bonnet and now the silk pillowcase. But, while our efforts to minimize hair breakage are pure, I think we can all admit that the traditional scarves and bonnets aren’t always the cutest option.

You may be thinking, “I’m in my house. Why does it matter?” Honestly, it’s up to personal preference. However, I am a firm believer in the power of presentation. I’ve seen firsthand that dressing up, even while at home when no one is around, can significantly impact my sense of confidence and self-concept.

When I look good, I feel good and do good. That’s why I love the turban from You Go Natural. It comes in so many beautiful shades and is perfect for helping you to elevate your loungewear or bedtime look. You’ll look cute while preserving the moisture of your hair and reducing frizz on your styles. The inside is made with 100% mulberry silk, while the beautiful outside shades are made of viscose.

I don’t think there could be a better alternative on the market for a bedtime look.

Face towels from Clean Skin Club

Is it not just a paper towel? Absolutely not, darling.

Clean Towels via Clean Skin Club

When we wash our faces, the standard solution is to wipe off the water with a face towel or bath towel hanging in our bathroom. This towel gets reused a few times before washing as it appears to be clean for many people. However, due to the material, towels house a lot of bacteria. The bathroom, in general, tends to accommodate a lot of bacteria for apparent reasons.

This means that we take the bacteria from our towels and consistently wipe them on our faces. Leading to or exacerbating existing acne.

Enter Clean Skin Club towels.

  • These are antimicrobial, meaning they will always be clean upon use
  • They have a smooth side and an exfoliating side to help reduce any undesirable texture or residue post-cleanse.
